Employment Rights

S.T.E.P. is involved in the campaign for equal employment rights for all through:

In 2004, S.T.E.P. launched an awareness campaign of the Workers' Charter of Rights to attempt to eliminate compromise of employees' rights. The ten point charter is as follows:

  1. The RIGHT to full and non-discriminatory employment and social protection.

  2. The RIGHT to a legally enforceable contract of employment which is clear and unambiguous, setting out minimum wage, hours of work, holidays and duties.

  3. The RIGHT to join a Trade Union and to have that Trade Union recognised by the employer.

  4. The RIGHT to work free from fear of physical, sexual or psychological abuse.

  5. The RIGHT to family life, including health provision, education and social rights for the children of migrant workers.

  6. The RIGHT to live and work free from racism and sectarianism.

  7. The RIGHT to recognition of qualifications, training and experience obtained in country of origin.

  8. The RIGHT to travel both within the host country and between all countries in the EU.

  9. The RIGHT to personal and leisure time.

  10. The RIGHT to change employer.
